I had the honor of developing a project, and working closely, with Steve Miner a few years back. Such a great guy with a fun sense of humor. I’ve always appreciated him as a director that showcases the “fun” aspect of horror. It really shows in the vastly underrated House, to Friday the 13th Part II and Part III, Warlock, Halloween H20, and of course this absolute blast of movie – Lake Placid. If you haven’t seen this film, or haven’t seen it in a while, here’s your chance to revisit. Here’s the brief synopsis on IMDB.
Three people attempt to stop a gigantic crocodile, who is terrorizing residents in Black Lake, Maine.
Lake Placid is just exactly what I said earlier – fun. Sure at its core it’s a giant crocodile movie, but it’s SO much better than that simplistic description makes it out to be. With a script written by David E. Kelley, you know it’s going to be really clever, with a dynamite sense of humor, and filled with interesting characters. But don’t worry, the suspense, action and horror is all there in spades too. Plus, it’s got America’s treasure Betty White in one of her best roles ever. Yeah, it spawned a million subpar sequels and very underwhelming mashups, but don’t worry about them. The original is all you need. So go back to the waters and have some fun with this little gem.
