Full admission, after horror, Disneyland and the Muppets are kinda two of my favorite things in the world. To me they’re everything I love about pure escapist happiness. Muppet Haunted Mansion is all three in one! Since I usually try to find at least one family Halloween movie to put on this list every year, this recently released delight fits the bill perfectly. At only an hour, it’s a breeze to watch and an absolute joy. Here is the brief imdb synopsis:
On Halloween night, Gonzo is challenged to spend one night in The Haunted Mansion.
Okay, so is it horror? To adults, no. But to some younger kids, sure! It’s spooky Muppets, I mean, what more could you want? Haunted Mansion has such a wealth of mythos to pull from that there is an onslaught of enjoyable bits and pieces played with Muppet-style. You’ve got everything from a Muppet take on the stretching room to Fozzy as the Hat Box Ghost! But then, you’ve got all sorts of fun little nods to horror films throughout. It kinda felt like this movie was tailor made for me. From the second I pushed play, I had a big stupid smile on my face the entire time. Will Arnett is center stage as our Guide, and he’s a delight as always. But then it’s also got all the oddball celeb cameos that Muppets have always indulged in, from Ed Asner to… Pat Sajak? Yep. Plus, if you’re a Pepe the Prawn fan — as I am — he’s front and center here along with Gonzo. I dare you not to laugh at Pepe. I DARE YOU. Anyway look, it’s a fun quick little Muppet special tailor made for a family viewing during Halloween. And hey, it’s only an hour, you still have time to watch Martyrs after the kids go to bed.
