This is the first film I saw back in an actual movie theater after the lengthy Covid break. And I gotta say, it was a borderline spiritual experience for me… to be back in my temple. You simply cannot recreate that all-encompassing, darkened, communal experience anywhere else. And A Quiet Place Part II showcases exactly why a theater will always be the single greatest place to watch a movie. Here is the brief imdb synopsis:
Following the events at home, the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond the sand path.
This is another of those sequels that takes place the moment right after A Quiet Place left off. Like Halloween & Halloween II, or [rec] & [rec]2. There’s just something about the pure continuation of a gripping story that is so fulfilling to me. But what A Quiet Place Part II does so nicely is go back in time to show how it all started. The opening sequences of this film that show the initial invasion are absolutely spectacular. The long steady cam shots that go on for ages are fantastic. Plus, it’s good to see Krasinski again (since, well, you know.) Movies like these are more than just viewing opportunities, they are experiences. This is why a theater was the perfect place for it. Every silence, every sound, every surrounding creature, everything pulls you in magically. Of course it’ll still work at home, but movies like this truly belong to be seen on the big screen. It’s a worthy follow up and I can’t wait until Part III.
