10/14/20 – OCTOBER HORROR MOVIE PICK #14 – Friday the 13th Part III in 3D.

In honor of receiving my absolutely GORGEOUS new Scream Factory Friday the 13th Deluxe Edition box set that officially dropped yesterday, I’m going to pick a funky chapter in the Friday the 13th universe. I’m going with Part III. Here’s the brief imdb synopsis:

Having revived from his wounds, Jason Voorhees takes refuge at a cabin near Crystal Lake. As a group of co-eds arrive for their vacation, Jason continues his killing spree.

There is so much to enjoy about this entry in the series, but the reason I chose this one is because the new blu-ray has a brand spanking new 4k scan from the original negative and 3D transfer! Woohoo! Finally, you can watch Part III the way it was meant to be watched, at home! I’ve been lucky enough to see this one a few times at various theatrical screenings in its original 3D, and holy hell is it fun. This movie came out right in the middle of peak 3D, and they use the gimmick to its full effect. Pitchforks, and a whole slew of weapons, coming right out at the screen, not to mention a million other pretty cheap 3D gags. It all adds to the fun. Throw in an over-the-top biker gang, some incredible 3D kills, and of course the iconically permed, ne’er-do-well, Shelly! You have both Part III and Shelly to thank for Jason finally receiving his iconic hockey mask. Yep, for you Friday novices, he never wore the hockey mask until this movie. Boom. Mind blown for many. Anyway, this is pure 80’s trash fun. Don’t go for the acting skills. Go for the pure escapist jolly good time. This is another entry (along with Part II) directed by the wonderful Steve Miner, whom I was lucky to work with on a project for a few years. Have fun with it kids, and hopefully you get to watch it in 3D too!

Where to Watch: The new Scream Factory Blu-Ray is the best because it has a new 3D transfer! But it’s also on various PPV sites.

Food/Drink Pairing: A drumstick, a doughnut, and a Dr. Pepper (the “3D’s” of food).
