Disagree if you want, but just know that I think you’re wrong. The Blair Witch Project is amazing, and whether you like it or not, changed the landscape of horror movies forever. The mockumentry film of course had been done before, but never to this extent. Simple and slow paced (something that sadly is a rarity lately,) the buildup in this movie is pitch perfect. I’ll still never forget when I first saw it at the midnight screening of Sundance film festival. It was the very first screening ever. No one had ever seen it, nor even heard of it. In fact, we were all informed it was an actual documentary, so that’s what we were prepared for. Why would have even thought otherwise? Needless to say, we bought it hook, line, and sinker. I still remember looking over at my friend’s faces during the 3rd act and seeing them stark white with fear. To this day it was one of my absolute favorite theater-going experiences ever. This flick set the bar. Plus, I just watched it again recently, and I still think it holds up. I’m sure by now everyone has seen it, but if you haven’t, do yourself a favor, and check it out immediately. Just make sure and watch it alone with all the lights off. Then go stand in a corner and wait your turn.
